Arriving at a new post can be a real challenge. The language is different, you don’t know anyone, you can’t find fresh milk (one of my families biggest struggles). Sometimes it can be very easy to get wrapped up in what is wrong with a new place and idealize the place we are coming from. It’s fine to miss where are you coming from but try not to focus on the negative aspects of your new post. In my experience that can snowball very quickly.
One of the things I like to do is make a list of all the things for which I am grateful. At first it might be challenging, because maybe you just don’t like your new post, so start small. Actively look for the things that you like or are grateful for because it will reframe the way you view your new environment. Share your findings with your family. Over dinner or before bed for example take turns sharing something positive about your new post. The power of positive thinking is real.
